Officers stated they were contacted by a man who found a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then found numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.

An important political figure stated the vandalism left him without words and required to be addressed promptly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
